The not-so-secret life of me (continued)

24 Feb

Well, 4 weeks into my course in Jazz Associate levels (the fourth lesson is tonight). Since the last post I have acheived the following:

  • Re-learned levels 1 & 2 dances and half of level 3
  • Reviewed levels 1, 2 & 3 exercises. I’ve found out that I don’t need to memorise these, just make good notes as to what they are and what to keep in mind and I’ll only have to demonstrate 2 individual exercises.
  • Notarised my level notes for most of levels 1-4
  • Got lots of volunteers to participate in the class I have to teach – yippee! All friends, most of them have never been to dance classes before so that will be a challenge but it just means I have to work hard at teaching them well and not challenge them too much (though a challenge is always fun!)
  • Chosen a song for my solo and started choreographing (Cosmic Girl / Jamiroqui – song and choreography subject to change)
  • Chosen a song for the beginner class routine, started to choreograph thinking that I had to do 32 (4 x 8) counts, then found out it is 32 bars (which is 16 x 8 counts) so I may change it, but I did add more
  • Chosen a CD to use for the beginner class warmup (a Ministry of Sound Annual – 2003 I think) and started working out exercises and ordering for the warmup.
  • Studied some of the theory that I will be examined on

That’s not too bad I think. Week 4′s lesson is tonight and the teacher will be giving us a lesson plan for each of the weeks left (last week the class size increased to 6 people). She has already given us notes on teaching and notes on the exam which are really useful. This Saturday I’m going to go to a beginner class and have a look at the warmup and the choreography for ideas in complexity.

I think that’s pretty good progress. I just have to be careful when dancing, my legs have been causing me trouble but I’m now on a “6 weeks to superhealth” diet to improve my health and energy so that should help.

    10 weeks to go…
